It’s been almost a decade since one of us had a taste of New Holland Brewing’s Ichabod Pumpkin Ale. Here’s what Limpd had to say about this beer way back in October of 2012:
-
- Appearance: Dark Amber (almost ruby tinged) with a lot of slowly dissipating foam and good lacing.
- Aroma: A little muted with hints of malt, citrus, hops and pumpkin spices.
- Taste: Crisp, refreshing, well-balanced with a lingering hoppy-pumpkiny finish. Not a lot of carbonation, but very creamy.
Conclusion: I’m not a big fan of pumpkin beers as to me they tend to be a little too much like a churned glass of pumpkin pie. This was not the case with the Ichabod. This was a very well-balanced beer and drinkable beer.
9+ years is a long time, so when New Holland reached and asked if we’d like to get reacquainted with their Ichabod Pumpkin Ale, we obviously said yes. Because if we said no, you wouldn’t be here for this review.
This is what New Holland has to say about Ichabod:
The legend of sleepy hollow lives on with Ichabod pumpkin ale. This flagship seasonal combines malted barley and real pumpkin with cinnamon and nutmeg in a delicious and inviting brew, perfectly paired with all things autumn.

Sounds like a great beer! The combination of cinnamon and pumpkin is interesting. What dishes would you pair this beer with?

Since it wasn’t an over the top pumpkin beer, I think it’s pretty versatile and will go well with some hearty dishes like stews, pot pies, etc.
