Barcelo Imperial Dominican Rum Review

We’re headed to the island of Hispaniola for today’s review. More specifically, we’re headed to the country that makes up the eastern side of said island, i.e. The Dominican Republic. An aged rum is what we’ll be discussing and it goes by the name Barcelo Imperial Ron Domenicano (aka Dominican Rum for those of us that don’t speak Spanish).

Before we get to our review, here’s a few words about this rum taken directly from an email that recently landed in our inbox:

Barceló Imperial ($35) is the result of the finest selection of hand-picked cane in the Caribbean. Awarded a Gold Medal and also the coveted “Best In Category” title at the 2008 International Cane Spirits Festival, twice-chosen “The Best Rum in the World” by the Beverage Testing Institute of Chicago, Imperial is the first rum to achieve the rating of 97 out of 100. This super-premium blend offers a far smokier, roasted nose than the rest of the Barceló lineup. At the palate, a creamy, buttery oak, roast sugar cane, and brown sugar aged up to 10 years with a superb flavor profile. Imperial is best enjoyed as a sipping rum, ideal for straight up or on-the-rocks consumption. Color: Bright copper-amber; Aroma: Buttercream, dried cherries, intense vanilla, pineapple jam and caramelized walnuts; Taste: A dry fruity lush medium-body, full of depth and balance; Finish: Ending a note of carrot cake, kola nut, mocha and strong toasted flavor that slowly fades.

About Ron Barceló: Celebrating 90 years since its conceptualization, Ron Barceló Rum was founded by Julian Barceló in 1930 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
