Mount Gay Black Barrel Rum Review

Pack your bathing suits, sunscreen, floppy hat, and sandals because on today’s episode of A Tasting at The Murder Table, we’re headed to the beautiful island of Barbados for a taste of Mount Gay Black Barrel Rum. While you’re at it, pack a few of those cooling towels too, because Barbados in mid-July is HOT! HOT! HOT!

Now that we have the packing list out of the way, let’s get to the rum…

Mount Gay Black Barrel Rum was introduced in March of 2020 as part of a brand extension headed by Master Blender Trudiann Branker. Here’s what Mount Gay has to say about their Black Barrel expression:

Our robust new Black Barrel blend is crafted from a blend of intense and aromatic rums, distilled in traditional copper pot and column stills. The rum is matured between 3 to 7 years in American Whiskey casks and then, finished for 6 months in deeply charred bourbon casks. This robust and bold rum offers rich notes of spices, gingerbread and toffee.

We’ve been lucky enough to sample a Barbados Rum or two on our global Rum tasting journey, so we were quite pleased to have this sample of Mount Gay land on our front porch. To find out how this Rum stacks up against other Barbados Rums we’ve sampled, click play on the following video:
