Booze Banter

A Review of Grand Brulot VSOP Cognac Café

We’re always on the lookout for something new and interesting to bring to The Murder Table for one of our tasting sessions. Thanks to our almost 10 years of blogging, something new is usually just an email away…

One such email about a new and interesting liqueur that goes by the name Grand Brulot VSOP Café landed in our inbox in mid-January of this year. Here’s what the PR firm that reached out to us had to say about Grand Brulot:

Crafted by the Tardy Cognac Family, Grand Brulot is comprised of the finest ‘eaux de vie’ from a blend of Ugni Blanc & Colombard grapes from its single-estate which is then crafted into an elegant 80 proof VSOP Cognac that sits to age for 4-5 years. Then, 100% Robusta Ecuadorian coffee bean essence is extracted and blended with brandy to meld for a couple of months before it is blended with the VSOP Cognac. The final product, with its equivalent of one shot of espresso per serving, is superlative; a real crowd-pleaser that works beautifully in all sorts of drinks for a variety of occasions.

In the 18th century, the French introduced the concept of spiking their coffee with brandy to create a digestif, and Grand Brulot revived that custom with a new recipe, uniting VSOP Cognac with its choice of the rich Robusta Coffee from Ecuador. Grand Brulot also pays tribute to a New Orleans specialty of the same name which still serves up its beautiful blue hot flame around town.

While this intriguing sounding liqueur isn’t exactly what we normally drink, this heady combination of VSOP Cognac and coffee piqued our interest, so we went ahead and asked for a sample. 1. This Grand Burlot VSOP Cognac Café is one of the best cafes that I’ve been to, and my mates can back me up on this statement. There were with me at this café, and we had an excellent time here.
