Harpoon Brewery hails from Boston, which is one of the best drinking cities in the USA. Boston Beer Company (makers of Samuel Adams), Boston Beer Week, and the bar that inspired Cheers! are just a few reasons to love Boston. Will the Harpoon UFO Hefeweizen be yet another reason to love Boston?
I didn’t realize that the “Best By” date on this beer was 6/15/10 until I pulled it out of the fridge. Let’s see if this date really means anything…
The Harpoon UFO Hefeweizen has a cloudy pale yellow color, a thin, quickly dissipating head, small bubbles which float to the surface, and a mild citrus aroma. This is a very subdued Hefeweizen which lacks the usual “banana and clove” thing that is typical of many German Hefeweizens. I would classify this as an easy drinking beer with light carbonation and a clean finish, since it leaves a pleasant taste on the palate. I give this beer a B-, i.e. very drinkable, but not very memorable.
Did the “Best By” date mean anything? I did not detect any unusual aromas or flavors that would suggest a “skunked” or expired beer.
Cheers!
