Compass Box Whisky Co. ‘World Record’ UK Tasting Tour

Starting in Inverness just after midnight, at 12.01am, John Glaser and Dominic Roskrow proceeded to host 8 different whisky tastings in 8 Whisky Shops across 8 cities between Inverness and 643 miles away in Brighton.

Travelling by car, the team reached their destination in Brighton bang on time at 11.30pm, 30 minutes within their 24 hour deadline. There were many highlights, but drinking Great King Street Highballs with more than 25 whisky fans in Edinburgh at 4.30am in the morning will live long in the memory!

Guinness were unfortunately unable to process the World Record attempt before it actually took place….but kindly replied three days afterwards (!) to confirm that it would have been a new world record category for them. So it’s the ‘World Record’ that wasn’t…Oh well, it was still an amazing day!

  1. As a girl who grew up in Maryland … that Chesapeake event feels like it’s speakin’ to me! Hmmmm, crabs, Old Bay & an ice-cold beer … I can smell it now! Maybe I’ll have to take a long weekend then. Thanks for posting!

    • Didn’t realize you were from south of the Mason Dixon line. I thought you a native New Yorker.

Totally agree about the crab and beer thing! Definitely a great way to spend the evening. Only one request… I prefer the backs and guts removed from the crabs. After three or four of the “dirty” crabs, I can’t stand the sight of them anymore. But the taste… oh how I love the taste! Now I want crabs and spaghetti. South Philly Italian style with tomato, garlic, and a healthy dose of hot pepper. Oh… and a big crusty loaf of bread to soak up the delicious sauce!

      • Yup! And I spent my childhood summers at the Jersey shore! Still try to get there for a day or two every August … I like a good balance between the Shore & the Hamptons 😉 That said, New York will always be my home. You?

Ok – you’re killing me with the spaghetti recount…had me at the “hot pepper” – deeeelicious! What beer would you pair with that spicy tomato sauce?

      • I may live in South Jersey, but Philly will always be my first home. As far as the Jersey Shore, had many a summer vacation (one or two weeks at a time) in either Ocean City or Wildwood. Can’t say that I’ve ever been to the Hamptons. I’m sure it’s lovely!

Spaghetti and Crabs pairing…. some red wine would work, but I’m sure many different beers would also pair well. I’m thinking a Saison Dupont or a Lost Abbey Red Barn Ale or given the spice factor, an IPA would be good too, i.e. Green Flash, Stone, or Sierra Nevada Torpedo. Or how about a Highball? Heh
