Chambord Cocktail Showdown: The Raspberry Bombshell vs. The Dream Angel Martini

On November 3rd, I received the following email from a Public Relations Representative for The Baddish Group (a NY based PR firm):

The most exciting fashion event in New York City this November is The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show After Party, being held November 9th at the new, downtown Dream Hotel

In case you want to do a post about the airing of The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on November 29th at 10/9C on CBS, I wanted to share with you two must-try cocktails, created by Chambord Liqueur, the official sponsor of the After Party.

The Raspberry Bombshell and the Dream Angel Martini are sparkly pink cocktails, a seductive accessory, and you can bet the beautiful Angels of Victoria’s Secret will be indulging, Chambord style.

Please let me know if these cocktail recipes are of interest. Images are below and Chambord samples are available upon request — just let me know what you need!

Since I’m not a fan of Vodka based cocktails, I was reluctant at first to do a blog article about these drinks. But then I had a thought. Accept the free samples and ask the wives of “It’s just the booze dancing…” to evaluate them and write down their honest opinions. I let The Baddish Group know what I planned to do with the Chambord samples and they immediately sent me what I needed to make these cocktails.

Chambord Vodka and Chambord Liqueur

This past Saturday, I managed to convince two of the wives to participate in this tasting. Mrs. Limpd (the deadly Neapolitan wife of Limpd) and Mrs. G-LO (my equally deadly wife) joined me at around 9PM. I told them to give me their honest opinions, and that is exactly what they did. Since I too was curious to try these cocktails, I joined in the fun and took some notes.

And now for our tasting notes and a final verdict…

CHAMBORD COCKTAIL #1 – THE RASPBERRY BOMBSHELL

Ingredients:

  • 0.75 oz Chambord Flavored Vodka
  • 0.75 oz Chambord
  • 2 oz Lemonade
  • 1 oz Cranberry juice
  • Squeeze of lemon

Directions:

Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist and a black raspberry.

TASTING NOTES

Mrs. Limpd says…

Smooth. Refreshing. Not too sweet. Flavor is not overpowering. A perfect summer drink.

Mrs. G-LO says…

Smooth. No hard hit of alcohol. Not too sweet. Only slightly cough-syrupy. Goes down easy. So summery.

G-LO says…

Much fruitier than what I usually drink, but actually quite tasty. A bit sweet, but with a hint of tartness to keep it from being overbearing. A perfect, early summer cocktail.

CHAMBORD COCKTAIL #2 – DREAM ANGEL MARTINI

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz Chambord Vodka
  • 0.5 oz Chambord
  • 3 oz Pineapple Juice

Directions:

Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with black raspberries.

TASTING NOTES

Mrs. Limpd says…

Not good. Not smooth. Tastes like cough syrup. Makes you cringe when swallowing. Smells good though.

Mrs. G-LO says…

Way more like cough syrup. Smells like pineapple, but tastes like ass. One sip was enough.

G-LO says…

Way too sweet for my taste. The raspberry overpowers the pineapple. Very unbalanced.

THE VERDICT

I think it’s pretty obvious from our tasting notes. The Raspberry Bombshell was the unanimous winner of this Chambord Cocktail Showdown. Since I really enjoy pineapple based drinks, I was expecting to prefer The Dream Angel Martini, but the raspberry/pineapple combo  just didn’t work in this cocktail. Cloyingly sweet and overbearing are the only ways to describe the Dream Angel Martini. The Raspberry Bombshell was superior in every way. Crystal clear, elegant, well balanced, and very easy drinking. The Raspberry Bombshell is a drink that is well worth trying.

Thank you to The Baddish Group for providing the spirits, and to Mrs. Limpd and Mrs. G-LO for participating in this Chambord Cocktail Showdown.

  1. And so begins the reign of the wives of the BoozeDancers. What’s next? Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts movie reviews?

Well….OK. So long as they are accompanied by more pictures of fetching young VS models.

The Baddish Group does seem to be living up to their name – slightly bad, er, naughty. Beware attempts by their morally uptight twin, the Goodish Group, to curry favor with you. We don’t need any more Bible Bloggers.

    Now, about the myrrh……….

  2. Ha, ha… I love the “tastes like ass” comment; I certainly won’t be trying that one. The Raspberry Bombshell sounds like something I may have to try with my girls that don’t care for beer!

Thanks to the Mrs. Booze Dancers for their reviews! 🙂

  3. Mrs. G-Lo’s comments for the Dream Angel sound a bit like an old SNL commercial. I can just picture Dan Akroyd and Laraine Newman shilling some awful product with a tagline: “Smells like Pineapple, Tastes like Ass!” The Mrs. enjoyed her tasting but it seriously cut into time at the Barthenon.

    • You know Mrs. G-LO, always with the saucy comments and occasional TMI. It was a fun tasting. Glad to hear that your Neapolitan wife was amused. I was up for a bit more boozing after she left, but you fell asleep with your Bambinos. Guess your time with The Mouse took its toll.

  4. If this tasting wasn’t conducted wearing nothing but bras and panties it is completely invalid. I expect you were wearing your Manssiere to support your alcohol fueled man boobs and your Guinness Lounge Pants

  5. These drinks are not for me (perhaps if the weather were flirting with temperatures in the 90’s vs 50’s I may be more swayed) but alas, your blog is always good reading. Very entertaining – including all of the comments. Glad to have some other ladies in the ring! Proper props have already been given but I’ll take my hat off to Mrs. G-LO’s “tastes like ass” note too. I appreciate that kind of honesty.

Now … will the BoozeDancing crew be crashing, er, I mean attending the Angels party?

    • Glad you enjoyed the read! Like I said, I was reluctant to do the post at first, but found a way to have some fun with it. Not sure if The Baddish Group was pleased with the results, but I certainly was!

As far as when to have these drinks, the Ladies and I were unanimous in calling it a perfect summertime cocktail. I’d say 80 to 85 is the perfect temp for The Raspberry Bombshell. Any warmer than that and I’m switching to beer or something on the rocks. Gotta amp up the refreshment factor when it gets that hot!

Crash a lingerie show? Certainly! Only one problem… it took place on 11/9. Guess we missed out. There’s always next year. Maybe between now and then we’ll score some legitimate invites. Heh
