We’re all familiar with the NCAA Men’s Division 1 Basketball Championship, aka March Madness. Since 2007, The Washington Post has their own version of March Madness, but instead of NCAA Basketball, they take 64 beers and pit them against each other in a competition that they call Beer Madness. Beer Madness 2011 will focus on US craft beers (there is a different theme each year). The competition begins on March 16th and ends on April 13th. Here is a list of past winners:
- 2007 – Brooklyn Lager
- 2008 – Hook & Ladder Backdraft Brown
- 2009 – Troegs Hopback Amber
- 2010 – Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout
Who will win Beer Madness 2011? Your guess is as good as mine.

Can we do a whiskey based version for the ROK’s whiskey party and call it Malt Madness??

That could be an interesting experiment! What do you propose? Speyside vs Highland vs Islay vs Other SIngle Malt? Or perhaps by country, i.e. Scotland vs USA vs Ireland vs Japan? Or how about Bourbon vs Single Malt vs Scottish Blend vs The Rest of the World? The possibilities are endless!

Maybe not a full 64 seat tourney or at least spread it over several nights.
