The brewers at Dogfish Head, Stone, and Victory have joined forces and created a beer which they call Saison du BUFF (BUFF = Brewers United for Freedon of Flavor). Rather than try to sum up the history of this beer, I’ll just let the brewers tell the story on their own.
Great video, but how does it taste?
Appearance: Bright golden sun. Not as cloudy as expected, and unlike the Saison Dupont, I can actually see through this beer. Not a particularly thick head, but what little there is lingers for quite awhile, and leaves remnants on the glass as you drink it down.
Aroma: Citrus and herbal notes, particularly sage.
Taste and Mouthfeel: Citrus, herbs, light on the malt and hops. Well carbonated. The flavor coats your palate like a good wine and has a relatively long finish. Much like the Saison Dupont, it reminds me of a very dry champagne.
Rating: As I have said on numerous occasions, this has been the summer of Saison. Now that I have had several of them, including the benchmark Saison (Saison Dupont), I think I can fairly assess this beer. I definitely like the Saison du BUFF, but I don’t love it. Maybe all of the hype has something to do with it. I give it a B+.
