This podcast has gone retro…
It’s gone noir…
It’s gone way, way back into the wayback machine…
It’s gone back to the days of penny loafers, pencil skirts, the studio system, cigarettes, daytime baseball, and when men and women wore hats.
One Show, One Drink, Vol. 18 ventures back to 1945. The war is over. The boys are finally home. And it’s time to build tract housing, shopping centers, automobiles to drive wherever you want on big, gorgeous freeways, and help build a bustling post-war economy to show the world who’s Number 1! Which brings us to Mildred Pierce, starring Joan Crawford, in all of her black & white beauty and acting chops. It’s a classic drama from the era that won Ms. Crawford the Academy Award for Best Actress which she parlayed later into Mother of the Year. There’s wiseguy talk, smart comebacks, plenty of shadows, devious scoundrels, and forlorn looks accompanied by hairstyles that took hours in the beauty parlor. Oh, those waves and curls!
This one kept the Boozedancing Pinochle Club riveted to the Max. HBO, that is. We chat gleefully over this one with a Dram Hunter 34 Year Old Invergordon SIngle Grain Scotch Whisky from Glass Revolution Imports. An old movie deserves an old whisky.
Download this one onto the big RCA radio that the cat sleeps under and ENJOY!
