As a part of a mixed six, I picked up a bottle of the Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold. We have reviewed a lot of the Great Lakes line-up (Christmas Ale, Edmund Fitzgerald Porter, Commodore Perry IPA, The Doppelrock Doppelbock Lager, Lake Erie Monster Imperial IPA, Eliot Ness Amber Lager and the Oktoberfest) and are huge fans. Their quality, variety, and commitment to craft brewing are exceptional, so I wasn’t really taking a risk when I picked up the Dortmunder Gold.
Here is what Great Lakes has to say about their Dortmunder Gold:
Hailing from Dortmund, Germany, the name of this smooth lager reflects the unprecedented accolades and recognition it’s earned in major worldwide beer tasting competition. The Dortmunder Gold strikes a delicate balance between sweet malt and dry hop flavors.
I found the Dortmunder Gold to have the following characteristics…
- Appearance: Clear golden and a mild foam and lacing.
- Aroma: Sweet malt and pine.
- Taste: Clean, crisp, refreshing with a slightly bittersweet finish.
- ABV: 5.8%
The Dortmunder Gold is yet another great beer from Great Lakes. It went down very easy and would be a session worthy beer. If you are looking for a food pairing, Great Lakes recommends it with salads, chicken or fish.
