As a follow-up to the Winter Welcome, I moved on to yet another product from Samuel Smith and had a Nut Brown Ale. I found the pour to yield a dark, dark orange with light tan foam. The aroma was strong on roasted malt with a faint hint of chocolate and fruit. The mouth feel was thick and full and the taste was just like the aroma with deep, roasted malt and a slightly burnt/slightly sweet finish. While the Beer Advocate gave it an A-, and I am partial to Samuel Smith products, I liked the Nut brown Ale a little less than the Winter Welcome and give it a B+.

Where did you get the glass?

Around Christmastime, Samuel Smith’s releases a sample pack of three bottles (usually the Nut Brown, the Oatmeal Stout and the Old Brewery Pale Ale) and a glass. As the three bottles are three of my favorites, I will pick up the sampler and add a nice pint glass to the cabinet.
