Release The Kraken!

While browsing the whisky and beer selections at Total Wine in Cherry Hill, I stumbled upon an interesting bottle of spiced rum. They call it “The Kraken Black Spiced Rum”. Supposedly, I dared my friend and neighbor to buy a bottle of the stuff. Below are a list of possible Kraken Rum inspired drinks:

Kraken Swizzle = Kraken + Lime Juice + Pineapple Juice + Orange Juice + Grenadine

Kraken Colada = Kraken + Cream of Coconut + Pineapple Juice

Night of the Living Kraken (aka Zombie) = Kraken + apricot brandy + pineapple juice + papaya juice + grenadine

Kraquiri (aka Kraken Daiquiri) = Kraken + Lime Juice + Simple Syrup

Hot Buttered Kraken = Kraken hot water + packed brown sugar + butter + pinch o’ salt + cinnamon stick + clove + nutmeg + whipped cream for topping

Kraken Kiss (aka the Hair of the Kraken) = Kraken + Tia Maria + Milk
*** good with a big Irish breakfast and some Kraken scrapple after a night of hard drinking

Sadly, I can’t take credit for any of these rather inspired creations. Below is a link to The Kraken’s website:

  1. It has been brought to my attention that proper credit has not been given to the creator of “The Kraken Drinks”. These delightful recipes were developed by my friend and neighbor “The Wookie” aka “The Hairy Scot in Need of Manscaping” aka “The Walking Carpet” aka “The Man Whose Face Can Stop a Puck”. My apologies for the oversight.

  2. Hairy Scot? Sound like a good name for a drink!

Hairy Scot = 2 parts Dewars + 1 part Kraken

    Serve over ice and enjoy!

  3. FOR THE RECORD:

At $20/bottle the Kraken is a good value and an interesting conversation piece. It makes a damn fine Rum and Cola and is perfect for mixed rum drinks that require a strong flavored dark rum. The next experiment will be the “Bananas Kraken” version of the classic Bananas Foster.

Give it a try and RELEASE THE KRAKEN!
