Beer Review – Wells Banana Bread Beer

After another trip to Kress Wine’s wall of imports, I picked up a Wells Banana Bread Beer from Wells and Young. I had the Wells Bombardier and the Young’s Double Chocolate Stout, so the brand and the quality were known to me. Wells and Young is the largest private brewing company in the UK. Besides their namesake brands, they also produce the Courage and McEwan lines.

Beer Review – Harviestoun Old Engine Oil

I had stopped in to Kress Liquors to check out their assortment of canned beer for an upcoming pool party. Always a sucker for proper merchandising, I wandered over to the import wall and immediately was struck by the Old Engine Oil. I put together a couple of chocolate stouts (incl. Rogue Chocolate and  Young’s Double Chocolate) and added a bottle in for tasting. From the Harviestoun site:

Old Engine Oil is strong and dark but wickedly smooth. Chocolate dominates the palate but is nicely balanced with a hoppy bitterness. Old Engine Oil is a delicious post-prandial beer with a bittersweet aftertaste.

Rock Bottom – Moonlight & Cask Porter

On a recent trip to La Jolla, we stopped at the local Rock Bottom Brewing Company and I selected the sampler. This involves eight 4oz pours. The first 4 pours are the same tried and true beverages that are served at all of the Rock Bottom’s. The last four are the work of the local brew master.
